Write for us

Local Champion Stories welcomes thoughtful pitches about the people, places and lasting contributions behind local sport. We are interested in reported and carefully framed work that gives readers a specific subject and a reason to look beyond the score.

What we welcome

Pitches may focus on a sporting journey, a distinctive local setting, a particular element of sporting craft or the way a contribution lives on in a community. We welcome fresh perspectives and clear explanations for readers who may not know the sport or place. A strong idea has a defined subject, a clear point of view and enough reliable material to support the proposed story.

What to include

Tell us the proposed subject, the central idea, why it suits Local Champion Stories and what information or access the piece would rely on. Mention any relevant interests or relationships that could affect how readers view the work. Do not send private or confidential material without permission, and do not assume a proposal will be accepted or published.

How to send a proposal

Send pitches and writing proposals through the Contact page, choosing the editorial question option and giving your message a clear subject. Please send a concise proposal first rather than a complete unsolicited article. We consider submissions for fit, accuracy and clarity; sending one does not guarantee a response or commission.
